SiteLens Privacy Policy
Effective 18 October 2026
In short: SiteLens looks at the website you are on, on your own device, to explain it to you. It does not collect, sell or send your data anywhere. There are no SiteLens servers, no accounts and no analytics.
What SiteLens reads, and why
To build the report you see in the popup, SiteLens reads, on your device only:
- the address of the page in the current tab and how you arrived there (redirects and link tags), to show who gets paid if you buy;
- the addresses of other sites the page contacts, to show which companies see your visit;
- the cookies of the current site and the sites it contacts, and when they were set, to explain what each one does and whether tracking started before you answered the cookie banner.
None of this leaves your browser.
What SiteLens stores
| What | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Report data for open tabs | Your browser's temporary extension storage | Deleted when the tab or browser closes |
| History: one short summary per site per day (site name, score, which tracking companies were seen, which affiliate network and partner sent you there if any, and whether tracking started early or credit was swapped). No page addresses. | Your device only (extension local storage) | 30 days, then deleted automatically. You can clear it any time, and turning History off in Settings deletes it. |
| Companies you chose to block | Your device only (extension local storage) | Until you unblock them or remove SiteLens |
| Your settings (language, History on or off, link cleaning) | Chrome's extension settings storage. If you use Chrome Sync, Google syncs these between your own devices. | Until you change them or remove SiteLens |
Removing SiteLens deletes everything it stored.
What SiteLens changes, only when you ask
- Give credit back: after another extension swapped the affiliate credit, puts back the cookie value that was there before the swap. With "Give swapped credit back automatically" on (off by default), this happens without a tap.
- Remove credit: deletes the affiliate cookies of the current site and reloads the page without the affiliate tags.
- Delete tracking cookies: deletes the ad, analytics and social cookies of the current site.
- Delete these / delete one cookie: deletes only the cookies you picked.
- Block a company: stops that company's tracking addresses from loading on any site, until you unblock it.
- Clean links (off by default): removes ad, campaign and, if you choose, affiliate tags from addresses before pages load.
Everything that deletes, removes or blocks asks you to confirm first.
What SiteLens sends
Nothing. SiteLens makes no network requests of its own. Site icons shown in the popup come from your browser's local icon cache.
Links you choose to open
The "Support SiteLens" button opens our donation page on Ko-fi. A sponsor line may appear in the popup footer: it is the same for every user, never chosen from your browsing, and only opens the sponsor's site if you click it. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
If coupon deals are added in the future, copying a code will stay on your device, and a deal link will always be labeled and only open when you click it. This policy will be updated before any such change.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
SiteLens's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to show you the report on your device, is never transferred to anyone, never used for advertising and never sold.
Children
SiteLens collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date before the change takes effect.
